Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a pioneering charity dedicated to removing the fear of breast cancer for good, through research, campaigning and education.

Because early diagnosis is key to survival, our education and health information raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, making sure that women get that vital head start.

Our campaigning work has opened doors in parliament, allowing us to directly influence politicians and policy makers to improve treatment and care for people with breast cancer.

Almost 10 years ago, we opened the first dedicated breast cancer research centre in the UK and it’s here that we’ve developed new drugs and pioneered new treatments. With three new research units in Manchester, Edinburgh and London we are building a network of research excellence into the cause and treatment of breast cancer. At each location, our scientists work alongside clinicians making sure that patients feel the benefits of research findings as soon as possible. The discoveries that are made by these scientists will make a very real difference to how breast cancer affects our lives in the future.

The speed of our progress is tremendous, and to have achieved it with such relatively modest budgets is truly remarkable. But with nearly 46,000 women and 300 men diagnosed each year there is still much more we need to do.

Over the next five years Breakthrough needs £30 million just to keep our existing work moving forward and important new areas of research urgently require a further £1.5 million each year.

We know these are enormous sums, but we also know that Breakthrough has amazing supporters, who understand the future benefits their help will ultimately bring.
